Unlocking exceptional talent in Atom Valley

AVECC exists to find and nurture exceptional academic talent - starting in Rochdale and growing across the Atom Valley region.

Our mission is clear: to broaden access to world-leading universities and the opportunities they unlock, especially for students who are too often overlooked. We do this through sustained, high-quality educational enrichment. Building advanced skills, ambition, confidence, and in time, the long-term economic growth of Atom Valley.

How We Do It

We start early and stay the course.

Working with primary, secondary and post-16 providers, we identify high-potential learners from Key Stage 2 right through to sixth form, offering a continuous journey of academic stretch and challenge.

We remove barriers, not talk about them.

Through targeted outreach, parental engagement and strong community partnerships, we support students who may not have traditional routes into university. Making sure opportunities are genuinely accessible, inclusive and sustained.

We raise the academic game.

Our programmes include seminars, masterclasses, study skills sessions and summer schools that deepen subject knowledge, sharpen thinking and embed university-level learning experiences. This is concrete preparation for universities like Oxford and Cambridge.

We work through schools.

By working closely with teachers and school leaders, we help build capacity to support high-achieving students. This includes sharing best practice, resources and subject expertise. And as we grow, we’re building a scalable, sustainable model of collaboration between universities, schools and local authorities.

Why it matters

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity isn’t.

By opening up access to elite higher education and developing the skills demanded by a modern, knowledge-led economy, AVECC is helping to shift the trajectory. For individual students, for schools, and for the future of Atom Valley.

We’re not leaving potential to chance.
